Q My husband and I have just bought a 1920s Craftsman-style log lodge by a lake. Currently the finish on the wide plank floors is very dark brown/black so dark we cant even determine what type of wood was used! We see two choices...
A If your house was built in the 1920s, more than likely the floors were stained and shellacked. (Shellac can darken dramatically over the years the original floors may have appeared much lighter.) Based on that assumption...more of answer
